Humar við Hafið - Hafið Bláa veitingahús

On the national holiday 17 June 2020, the artwork Lobster by the Ocean (Humar við Hafið) was dedicated. It is a 6m (20ft) long and highly detailed sculpture of an Icelandic lobster (langoustine).

The artist is Kjartan B. Sigurðsson from the town of Þorlákshöfn nearby. Lobster (langoustine) fishing has throughout the last 60 years been an important industry for the towns of Þorlákshöfn and Eyrarbakki on both sides of Hafið Bláa. Hannes Sigurðsson and Þórhildur Ólafsdóttir from the fishing company Hafnarnes VER in Þorlákshöfn commissioned the work, which was many years in the planning and months in the making.

Children especially enjoy seeing the gigantic sea creature and sitting on its back. You can, of course, also eat lobster inside the restaurant. We offer lobster tails, lobster soup, and lobster salad, as well as fish and other dishes. In addition, it’s also wonderful to sit on the back deck with a cup of coffee and some cake and watch the waves.
